Reopening your business safely while the pandemic is still here

The ongoing COVID-19 has already done enough damage to both life and property. While thousands of people have died due to respiratory disorder, businesses have also suffered a great deal of loss as the global economy is facing a downturn.

Reopening your business safely while the pandemic is still here

While the vaccine for the COVID-19 is still being developed, businesses are slowly and gradually resuming as there seem to be signs of a new normal. The initial lockdown phase has already done enough damage and as businesses try to recover the losses, it is of utmost importance that they return safely to the work environment since the pandemic is still here

Let’s discuss a few precautionary steps that businesses need to practice during these tough times:

Follow social distancing guidelines

As businesses open, social distancing guidelines shouldn’t be ignored as it is the best way to reduce the spread of coronavirus. To practise and implement social distancing at workplaces successfully, businesses should follow the below steps:

  • Avoid greeting one another with handshakes, hugs, and cheek-kisses.
  • Maintain at least six-foot distance with staff members or customers
  • Renovate the workplace to create more space
  • Break the working hours in shifts so that the workplace doesn’t get too crowded at once.
  • Place signs and boards to remind employees that we are still fighting the pandemic.

Frequently disinfect your workplace and regularly conduct temperature check

Cleaning and disinfecting your workplace should be the top priority when reopening. While the Coronavirus can survive in the air as well on surfaces for hours, it is very essential that the work area is regularly sanitized to keep the virus at bay. Also, businesses should conduct temperature checks before allowing an employee to enter the workplace as it can significantly prevent the spread of the virus.

Promote healthy personal hygiene within the workplace

The ongoing pandemic has taught us the hard way how important it is to practise healthy hygiene and this should continue further if we are to win this fight. The COVID-19 is a respiratory disorder that mainly spreads when a person is in close contact with people who are carrying the virus (through coughs, sneezes, and droplets in the air). Also, it can spread if an individual touches a surface that contains the virus and then touches his/her face, mouth, nose, or eyes.

Therefore, to ensure that both you and people around you are safe, it is very important that you and your employees wash their hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

Face masks, sanitizers and PPE are the new normal

Following up on the above point, the UK government and the WHO is recommending facemasks to be worn in public places. And the same goes for businesses that are reopening as they need to encourage their employees to cover their faces with either surgical masks or N95 masks. Also, it is advisable to always carry a hand sanitizer with you and use it frequently.

While employees need to protect themselves, employers also need to understand their responsibility and should offer PPE(Personal Protective Equipment), Depending on the location(high/low risk) of your business.

Work from home policy

This one has come as a saviour for businesses that elsewise would have perished. Work from home coupled with technology has saved thousands of businesses and this should continue as work from home policies need to be made more flexible. Individuals and businesses have already gotten used to the work from home culture and with a few tweaks and reforms within the company policies can help businesses adapt to what seems to be the new norm.

Summing Up:

Hard times will always be there as ups and downs are a part of human lives. However, it is how we rise back after the fall is what matters. The human race is at a similar point where we need to focus more on rising back rather than focusing on the damage done by the fall.

While we may have a completely new life after a pandemic, it is crucial that we keep adapting. As businesses reopen and people start getting back to work, above were a few key points to remember and follow.
